What to expect.

A personalised diagnosis will take place at your first appointment. This will include a full consultation – gaining information about current symptoms but also a full medical history and I will also ask to feel your pulse and look at your tongue. The treatment will then involve the insertion of ultra-fine sterile, disposable needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the healing process. You will lie on a treatment couch and be given time to relax and let the needles work during the treatment. In most cases you will not need to undress – it is advisable to wear loose fitting clothes where possible. Many patients feel so relaxed during treatment they fall asleep.

Acupuncture, when performed by a properly qualified, licensed professional is extremely safe. Most of the side effects are positive (e.g. better sleep, improved digestion), other minor side effects that might happen could be minor bleeding or bruising. Occasionally, some people notice that their pain or symptom actually seems to be worse before it gets better. This is normally a good sign and lets you know that a therapeutic process in your body has started. At each follow up appointment a full review will take place and you can feedback how you’ve been feeling – treatment will be adjusted accordingly.

Prior to each treatment it is advisable to eat a light meal or snack and to avoid caffeine or alcohol.

During your treatment I may use other methods which I see helpful to your condition such as cupping, moxibustion, lifestyle and dietary advice.

If you have any questions at any stage of your treatment, please do ask!
